Regarding the new MacBooks... I think one of the more important aspects of the new processors is that they support USB 3.0, so without any historical speculation I would assume that USB 3.0 would be included in the next update -- USB 2.0 would seem rather silly, since I bet the bus would have to be wired in some sort of "legacy" mode that would be pointless (probably comperably complex to implement) besides the additional expense of 3.0 ports etc.
I know for me that the show-stopper on buying a current MBP is the hope for USB 3.0 and a faster discrete GPU in the future.

I hate to impose and I don't want to come across as creepy, but I was wondering if you could draw up a rough schematic of your room; I love the layout.

Apple will never make a laptop that is that size because it would mean that they would have to take out the optical drive and make the computer ultimately worthless without a docking station. Apple will never make a computer that isn't fully capable from the start.
First of all we're in 2006. Optical-less laptops don't require a "docking station". We have FireWire and USB external drives now, nothing special is required.
Second, Apple already has a very successful product on the market that also requires a "docking station". It's called an iPod. Without a computer an iPod is useless. You can't rip things directly to it.
And third, as mentionned, we're in 2006. Honestly, the only times I use the combo drive of my Mac mini is when I play Starcraft, Diablo II, rip music CDs with iTunes or encode my DVDs to H.264/AAC with HandBrake. That's all.
I would sell my 12" Powerbook in an instant if Apple ever made a light sub-laptop. Even a 13" Macbook is too big IMO. The laptop being my second, portable computer, I want it more portable than a "desktop replacement".
That's how I see it anyway.
As for the new specs of the Macbook, if the rumors are true, then I hope we can expect the Mac mini to be updated with the exact same specs in about a month or so.
As for heat problems with such a small laptop, well, no one is forcing Apple to run the processor(s) at their full speed. An Intel Core 2 Duo that's about 25% slower would still be about 50% faster than a G4 I guess (if we take Apple's marketing numbers) but could require half as much power (better battery life, lower heat dissipation).

I think it's a computer that will fit inside your home and possibly carry around with you (There's something in the Air), that can use your modem's telephone line to connect to the WWW and display text and graphics.

Is it just me, or does the new iTunes logo look horrible in the dock? It doesnt seem to match anything, and it just doesnt look as "clean" as the typical dock logos have been/should be. When i went to click iTunes for the first time and it changed from the nice/clean green logo to this blue cheesy looking 1995 icon, I was pretty surprised!

Again, the military is inextricable from the economy.
President Eisenhower thought it was better to expend energy and our precious resources on products that help and improve the human race, not to kill each other.
But I understand what you are saying though. Shifts will have to be made, pain will be suffered, just like the entire U.S. and most of the Western World is suffering the pains of globalization allowing the Middle Class to approach extinction, while the Rich get richer. In the U.S. you can thank the evil end-justifies-the-means, lying, cheating, Republican Party. And their "end" sucks a lot! Boehner and McConnel should be banned from holding public office.

Very similar external case, but the insides are totally new and different--so I think we'll see this case design for quite a while to come. That answers that, you can stop waiting for a new design :)
Lots of great attention to detail--like the way the drive-holders are numbered in case you take more than one out and forget where they came from.
I still wonder where the Airport and Bluetooth antennas are.
The new internal layout of the Mac Pro is ultra-wicked...
Couldn't agree with you more. It seems even if they bring new displays to Paris in Sept they will have the same basic design cues. Which also means that any design update to the macbook pro will be pretty subtle as well. Apple's Pro line-up is destined to carry the same design and silvery/slightly champagne-ish anodized look for quite some time in the future. Why fix something that's not broken?

I think they mean something along the lines of all the rats are jumping ship, and heading over the mac way. somethings in he air
Something in the air..... yeah, that's people's PCs being chucked out of the window at the news of great new Macs :p
Or perhaps we're finally going to get those flying cars we were promised for year 2000.

It's a shame the scenario played out this way. Joe's Facebook app is brilliantly crafted, easily the best (imperfections and all).
But I'm disappointed that he's thrown his arms up and decided to give up. To me, this is akin to the weak willed who threaten to leave the US when a regime philosophically detestable to them come into power. So you'd rather run away with your tail between your legs than stick around and strong arm your commanders into a compromise?
Hewitt, if Facebook had the cojones to support him, could have been the spark in the room of dynamite Cocoa Touch developers needed to convey to Apple that their review process has got to dematerialize. Or, at the very least, turn the austerity knob down from "11". The Facebook app is high profile and an 800lb gorilla. That's leverage to be used.
But Hewitt has his own agenda, and Zuckerburg's too busy picking his toe cheese to care, apparently.

Uh oh, now you're going to unleash the fury of the autism brigade. Asperger's isn't a personality disorder!
You are correct, sir. The autistic spectrum is not a personality disorder. Uniformed people on here are not understanding the diagnostic term "personality disorder", which are a handful of particular disorders carefully defined by the DSM-IV. The term "personality" is the key word here and it carries with it a specific meaning. And, as someone else has pointed out, in contrast to a PD, autism is a "pervasive developmental disorder".

What's the vibe on this update for people who haven't had any RSS problems so far, and whose machines haven't been in for service at all???
I'm tempted to do it anyway, to stave off the possibility that it might eventually go to **** in a couple months (a la people whose week 19 machines have been fine till yesterday kinda thing), but then that old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" pops into my mind...
