Has anyone noticed that the refurb section at the Apple Online Store is completely out of stock of all 15" and 13" Macbook Pros? I can't remember this being the case recently and it makes me wonder if this is related to a possible new release of those size configurations. There are multiple configs of the 17" MBP available.

I have a question.... what time does Apple release things, like Cupertino time??? I believe I heard it was nine, and if it is, then we still got another two hours of waiting

Exactly what I was saying. Apple is based in Cupertino, California. It's not even 8 am here yet. Usually stuff happens between 9am-12pm

What's with the focus on 'sold out'? Simply limit your passes well below the projected numbers of participants, and there you go, sold out. It's just a math game and a marketing ploy.

But how many tickets were actually for sale? 3000? 5000? 10,000? Remember that the conference center needs to house all the Apple employees, the contractors, and of course all the booths/rooms.

I would imagine that Apple purposely plans events (timing as well as location) that WILL sell out. Apple doesn't want to hold an event where only 50% of the conference hall is filled.

Selling out in 12 hours may not be all that it's cracked up to be. But in theory if 100% of the attendees are truly developers, I could see a fast sellout.

You and a few other thousand engineers. What hasn't been said is how many tickets were sold. I would be curious to see if Apple limited the amount of tickets the first round to get hype and "additional tickets" will go on sale later this week.

    Really? Wow, what's next?

    Cupertino:

Apple has announced a reduction in the number of restrooms available in their office buildings. This is seen as a media ploy to drive up demand.

Tin foil hats, necessity or fashion accessory? New at eleven.

But there are larger venues available, so it is certainly possible to limit the number of attendees by choosing a venue that is too small.

But are they ready to make the move to Vegas? Would love to see WWDC move here. :)

Sold out in 8 hours??? What on earth is this? A Hannah Montana concert? Dang it, I was gonna go too

What about Google I/O then? It was sold in just 59 minutes!

    Apple is doomed!TM :D

Wal-Mart is a massive contributor to officeholders in both major U.S. political parties, but especially those in the Republican Party -- so anyone who seriously thinks the company will be given pause by the probable illegality of its proposed actions is dreaming.

Just because some are successful does not mean all can be. There is plenty of racism still around in most countries, and yes it does effect the less off more than those that are well off.
Because Blacks are not all the same. You cant lump people of one race all in one group and expect them to all to have the same results. There is a history in the US of racism that still effects many black Americans. Many black Americans can't afford to go to college for example. Poverty is a vicious cycle that preys on its self.

Because some are successful does not mean all can be? That's crap. I'm not lumping them into one group, i'm saying their race has a disproportionate amount of poverty compared to others. And we're not even talking about the US, this thread is about Britain. Many blacks in Britain are immigrants, unlike in the US. So they have no history of anything there.

iLounge has a "First Look" article with photos of all models and accessories. They say that the new nanos have the Search and Smart Scroll feature of the new 5G iPod. Hopefully we with the plastic nanos won't miss out on that. I'm expecting an iPod Updater soon.

Sadly I don't think the 1G nanos will get them. Remember when the video and nano came out, with the stopclock, security lock, etc? The previous iPods didn't get an update :(.

I bought my MacBook at an Apple Store on the day it was released, and it has a screw in the very middle as well.

I am psyched. I've been itching to replace my PB 12" for close to a year - NOT because I NEED to, but because I want to. Therefore, when the updated MBP's with Merom are released, it WAS worth the wait (to me).

    Credit card ready...

Usually one person will get in a tank and if he is able to take out the other tank theres no real way to stop them.
4 or 5 Sniper shots will destroy a tank. 2 or 3 if you are precise and can hit either the driver compartment, or the exhaust vent. Just FYI.

But also, you will only have to deal with that for a about another week. The October update to playlists and maps is coming next week, and the Tank is being swapped for a Wraith, along with a host of other fixes and tweaks that people have noticed in this first couple weeks of playing.

I think you're staing a very good point, comrade :) The only people who are going to buy a MBP is the ones that cares and who know they're going to buy it despite of the iPad.

I dont think either that the iPad will loose customers because of a "minor" MBP update. Just look at the pre-order numbers. Haven't they passed over 50,000 now? And that in just days? I mean, it shows the interest for the iPad and people will not ask themself wether go get an iPad or the new Macbook Pro, they know they want that ****INGS iPad.

So in all, mr. Jobs have no reason to delay the launch of the new MBP. Because he know that the iPad will be a sucsess and it won't matter when the hell the MBP is released... Hmmm...that makes me wonder why he haven't released it before allready :S

It has nothing to do with who buys what. It's all about marketing. And I assure you Mr. Jobs is considerably better at marketing than you (or anyone else on these boards).

The pricing was taken off a Canadian website. Are these Canadian Dollar prices? If so, expect the US Dollar prices to be somewhat lower.

"The first step on the long road (道) to recovery is to recognize that you have a problem."

Well, I certainly have a "problem" with the notion that a publicly funded military needs to be maintained in order to protect privately owned enterprises, who by their own free will have set up operations in foreign countries, often at the expense of American jobs.

Sorry to ask such basic questions, but I can't get the video to play through our firewall... Do they explicitly show an external WiFi card plugged into the slot?

Yes...he holds it up and then sticks it into the slot.

What are you a sloth? It sounds like you rarely use your Mac. Updates are pretty far in-between to be that lazy:confused:

It's ridiculous that iOS hasn't already had this enabled - having to crawl back to my Mac to update my phone or iPad is just a total pain....

I'd have to dissagree with you there, even in the x86 world Mhz is not a clear rating, take the P4 and XP+ for example.
The top Intel CPU at the moment is 2.8Ghz, while the AMD 2600+ (2.13Ghz) is AMD's best offering, even though there is almost a 700Mhz speed difference there the AMD will still be as fast if not faster as the apparently (going by Mhz) supreme Intel.

Yeah, but Home Basic is crap.

A lot of users don't mind if they get crap, as long as it's cheap crap. I can't count the number of times I've heard recently people saying that all they want from their computer is to be able to surf the web, check email, and do a Word document.

It goes back to the basic Mac vs. PC debate. People have often said you can get cheaper PCs than Macs, which has long been the case. They may be crappy PCs, but they're cheaper than the low-end (but less crappy) Mac consumer models.

It looks like Apple is determined to show Macs are competitively priced, and in some cases cheaper than comparable PCs. That is very good news. But in terms of the OS, if you can get one version of Vista for $99 and Leopard for $129, the less knowledge/less fussy user is only going to see the price tag unfortunately.
