    Hello all!

I partitioned my primary disk into 2 parts and installed snow leopard on the second. The problem was, the second was too small. So now, months after having used my secondary partition, I realized I no longer need the primary, so I have deleted it. I'm trying to find a way to resize the second partition into the space the first partition left. It seems like the only thing I can do is create a new partition with the free space, transfer all my data into that new one, and delete this one, then resize. but I'm sure there must be an easier way to do this without having to go through all that trouble. I know that if i would have deleted my secondary partition, I would have been able to resize my primary. Is there a way to resize now? maybe through terminal or a third party app?

huh? i got my iphone 4 at tmobile and got it unlocked for 100 after explaining to them that i'll be uproad for some time and need to use a foreign sim. was no prob at all. u cant expect someone to use their sim in australia for example. ud be broke after usin the net for 5 mins ^^

I did the same right after i got my new iPhone 4 and they refused to do it referring to the 2 year service agreement. After 2 years you can unlock it for free, within the 2 years you cant at all...at least thats what they told me.

    Lucky you i guess :D

I do like otterbox, but I don't like the defender series - prefer the commuter. ANyway I've pre-ordered an invisibleshied with a coupon for $14.99 from zagg but now debating also getting a case =( hmm I really wanted to keep it as slim as possible.

Posixninja just tweeted that this is the slowest progressing jailbreak ever. I'm guessing no jb for iPad 2 anytime soon. We need geohot back

Yes, he can be annoying, but there's no denying he's brilliant. Maybe now he's settled with Sony, he'll be back again with iOS.

yeah, i totally understand what you're saying. android definitely does a lot more straight out of the box than the iphone does. but i guess for me, if i had an android device i'd really like to be able to flash some really cool builds and kernels a lot of the guys at xda-dev release (like we all used to do on the old winmo days) that way i don't have to worry when the manufacturer quits releasing updates after ~6 months and i get stuck on an old os. i just hate the fact those manufacturers are trying to prevent that type of community from doing their thing.

Well that's kinda hypocritical posting in an Apple forum. Apple tries 100x harder to prevent users from jailbreaking than Android\Manufacturers do try to prevent rooting\modding.

Either way, I like current technology, so I don't worry about updates after 6 months. I replace my computers every 6 months, and my phones as well. This was one of the reasons I defected from Apple's phones, got tired of waiting for a one-a-year product cycle for a phone that wasn't even the latest and greatest technology.

I knew they would think of something better than on-screen touch controls. That just wouldn't be good for nobody. This approach seems very good. I'm sure there will be something specific that has to happen in order for the buttons to activate as not to be activating them all the time while just holding it.

Start the bidding at $100 and see where it goes.

I'd do this too. Make sure your listing has lots of pictures and a good description. Let us know how it goes!

Yes, and that got me looking for a link to "contribute." But I couldn't find one. :D

What happened to the positive/negative rating system? Did its value go from worthless to pathetically useless?

Still, I liked the ratings, it gave an overall sense to the story (sometimes).

Besides that, A+ on the site so far.

i have a really small iogear 4 port USB 2.0 hub. it's white, not more than 4-5 inches and about 3/4" thick. it looks like this: http://www.mobileplanet.com/us/product.asp?code=120112&partner=IMFRO, but it's white. i used it once or twice because i didnt have enough room to plug in my ipod, but i dont use it too much anymore, i just switch between one of the ports on my pb. i think i paid like $29.99 or something, but i'll give it to you for like $15?

Right now I can buy 8 gigs of PNY RAM (4gb x 2) for $50 on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=u999238t2878689f9fp0dd0c0s701&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16820178335 , Coupon Code: "NEWGEEK10" for new customers) but I've read some mixed reviews. Anyone have personal experience with PNY RAM or can recommend a better brand to buy from? I'm new to installing RAM.

The games cost the companies millions to develop on each platform, and it is their intellectual property in the first place. Adding DRM to someone else's music takes a push of a button.
Which costs tens millions to operate and to license. Keep in mind that it's not any given music service which elects to use DRM, it's the recording companies that insist upon it. The reason why Fairplay is relatively lenient compared to other schemes is that it is locked down to a narrow set of compatible devices. You can copy your music to any number of iPods, for example--which goes far beyond "fair use" under the law. Win some, lose some.

I don't get your logic there at all. As I've just said, DRMd media isn't the same as software. If I didn't want a dominant Sony Walkman 20 years ago, I bought a Panasonic and my tapes still played. If I decided my Philips DVD Player was rubbish, I could buy a JVC and the DVDs still played.
You bought into an available open standard. There were competing proprietary ones as well--just none as popular as CD or DVD. There is still an available open standard (albeit often at a higher price per track). The availability of more limited music doesn't limit you one bit. You chose the limited version over the unencumbered one because it was faster, easier, and/or more customizable.

As far as I'm concerned, anything I OWN, I should have fair use rights over, even if I wish to change the make of my player. Steve Jobs makes a big deal about us OWNING our music when we buy from iTunes. If I truly own it, I should have the right to use it how I wish. Which is it?
You do own the DRMed music file. You can use it without continued payment and without time limits. Ownership of the intellectual property of others has always been nuanced. There's ownership of content (lyrics, performance, etc. can all have different owners), of distribution (including licensing for public performance), of a license to the media (on a CD belonging to you or in a digital file under your control), and of course various forms of renting and leasing. When you buy music from iTunes (or any other pay-once service), you have indefinite (timewise) usage rights and control of that license. You do not, nor can Apple legally grant you, total control over the file.

If DRM is necessary, it should be interoperable between different manufacturers. The aim of it should be to prevent illegal copying, not allow vendor lock in.
There's nothing wrong with vendor lock-in so long as an easily attainable, universal solution also exists. Since you are not obligated to buy anything from iTMS if you own an iPod, there is no justifiable harm. What I would like to see is a service permitting you to assemble custom CDs from individual tracks (instead of being forced to buy entire albums) and lower prices from iTunes. Both of these require the recording industry to embrace the Internet, rather than fight it.

I'm looking to setup an external hard drive with my airport extreme.

    Plan to use it for:
    Time machine backups
    Air drive

I'm looking for about 500GB to 1TB. Ideally, the drive will be setup near my TV, so it is important that it is quiet. Any suggestions for an external drive?

    Order of importance:
    1. Quiet
    2. Size (500GB+)
    3. Price
    4. Looks

I did search, but surprisingly did not find many relevant posts. If you are aware of any, please link to them. Thanks!

Are you on a visa, and if so what kind?

Japanese immigration won't give you a working visa without a four year degree.

If I were an MS shareholder, I would be OUTRAGED.

How much did they pay for that? To be fair, I don't recall if MS bought just VPC or all of Connectix, but it hardly matters!

That's got to be a giant pile of shareholder wealth pissed away in a half-assed attempt at being part of (read: smothering) the increasing popularity and utility of Apple.

I would really love to see the numbers on that boondogle.

The connectix deal wasn't a 'boondogle' at all - connectix had other products than VPC. MS Virtual Server is based on the code they got from connectix. The server virtualization market is absolutely huge compared to VPC's potential market. I'm sure to Microsoft, VPC was a drop in the bucket in terms of revenue, and if I were a shareholder, I'd be happy as hell that they dropped it.
