Maybe they'll even offer ground-breaking features like bi-directional text editing

Seriously, if Apple wants to compete in the word processing field, they need to start addressing people around the world, not just those who they consider guranteed target audience.

Looks like ill be going to Android.

Why? You know, arguably the best Android phone out right now (the Nexus S) still basically has the same processor and a lower res screen than the iPhone 4. In fact, I think the iPhone 4 will easily pass the test of time until September, especially if it gets some iOS 5 goodness in the summer.

Wouldn't you know it, my Sister-in-Law's MBP just arrived Yesterday!

    CD or C2D?

If CD I would return in immediately, preferably unopened...

Thats what I hate about this update policy. Yesterdays investment is losing suddenly 30% of its value. Apple should really address this by lowering prices before such an update...

More and more references to iOS design means that apple is slowly transitioning to touch user interface. It's pretty clear that next version of Mac OS X will be touch based.

By definition, having alternatives makes Apple NOT a monopoly.

Really. We have an awful lot of ill-educated people around here who think they know economics....Wayyyyyyy too many people are saying that with a straight face.

    as will most.

this white phone delay seems rather odd.

hopefully those who wanted the color will now finally be able to get one.

you guys do realize that with this product release the wait for the iphone 5 will be a long time from now? people that do have iphones or smartphones can wait. but people with phones that can only make calls and texts and batterys that last for 3 hours. will deffiantly jump on this iphone due to the fact it is "new" i for one will be buying this on verizon on a upgrade plan the day it comes out.

Oh great. I'm going to have to tie up my Internet connection for a long period of time to update my 4G iPod touch and iPad 2 for the 4.3.2 update.

I REALLY hope that Apple does incremental updates of iOS starting with iOS 5.0 to save us from tying up the broadband connection for such a long period of time.

Wow. If a little 700MB download ties up your internet, I think you need a new internet.

I am REALLY amazed what people complain about at times
Chas2010 is right, get new internet then

By "small render farm", I mean small! It's made up of 6 Dell GX270, running P4 2.4ghz single core, with my MP as the Que controller (Ubuntu via Parallels). But they should working out pretty good for continuous folding for the time being. I'm building 5 dual processor, dual core Xeon servers (all 2.66ghz) to replace the Dells but that won't happen until the end of December (i'm getting ready to move from Japan back to the States in two weeks and I have most of my stuff packed up). Once I get settled back in the States and have the new servers running, I should be able to commit some good firepower towards the team effort.

Or Apple realized most people don't need a backlit keyboard? I honestly don't see a need for one, and I'm guessing most users don't need it. So it was probably a easy option to axe for either space or battery life. Don't expect it to return.

I don't know, it's been on all aluminum models since 2003. After all these years Apple decided no one really wanted it? (A lot of people on these forums obviously wouldn't agree with that).

To save battery life? You can turn it off if you want. Problem solved.

To be honest, I've had more application crashes and restarts on OSX than I have under XP/Windows in the past 3 years. So much for "crash resistant" - and yes, I've had 4 kernel panics since I got this iMac home; that's more than the number of BSODs I've had under XP in 4 years.

Which means -- as everyone is saying -- that there is something wrong with your computer. I have a MacBook, two Intel iMacs, and a Mac Pro in my house, and they do not crash despite heavy daily use. My poor Mac Pro is running three different operating systems right now using Parallels, with nary a complaint. If you are getting unexplained kernel panics on a clean install of Mac OS X, then you have a hardware problem.

Hardware problems can affect any OS -- I've seen Windows systems that get daily BSODs. It's not because "Windows sucks", it's because there was a sub-par memory chip or somesuch in the system. Likewise Mac OS X crashes, when nobody else is experiencing a problem, are not an indication of the stability of the OS but rather of your hardware.

You're quoting me back to me when all of us (including me) were talking about that other guy that is having hardware problems because his Parallels "sucks." Parallels kicks ass on my C2D 20" iMac - hence the reason I piped up to be the first to say something is wrong with the other guy's machine if he can't get it working right.

On mine, which is stock hardware except for the 2GB of RAM I have in it, Parallels starts up in 4 seconds, boots my XP VM in 9-10, shuts down in 3-4, restarts the same VM in under 5 seconds (have yet to figure that one out, probably because of caching someplace; I don't even see the XP splash screen when it reboots/restarts because it's so fast), suspends in 22-25 seconds, resumes in 30-34, and I have no issues with any hardware at all in my XP VM. I even burn CDs and DVDs from the XP VM over FireWire/USB without hassles (Plextor FireWire/USB external).

So, on a similarly configured piece of hardware, if he's having suspend/resume times that seem to be 4-6x longer than others then, as you said, there is something wrong with the hardware. If none of the rest of us are having said issues, your line of logic would follow and apply to his machine since he's the only one reporting such ridiculously long suspend/resume times among other things.

Parallels works for me. Since I can't post specific benchmark data for Parallels and that other new-on-the-scene virtualization software for Macs <hint, hint> I'll just say this:

I completed the testing I said I was going to do, and Parallels simply lays the smackdown across that other software. And yes I'm well aware that other software is in beta - or pre-beta late alpha as one person put it - and that's fine. But I paid for Parallels, and to use that most famous line about Macs:

    It just works.

Oh yeah, it beats that other software even with multi-core CPU support enabled. Go figure.

    bb

Parallels sucks but until now its been the only REAL game in town.

Ah... the clarion call of lamers. Might as well bash Windows since it's so pervasive while you're at it. And it's still no excuse for stealing the software and breaking the faith. Bleh...

I read some of the reader comments at the end of that article. This "Argo" is just vaporware, yet people are saying they'd rush out and buy it.

Other commenters got upset because someone pointed out how the "Argo" is an iPod ripoff. It IS a ripoff - you'd have to be as blind as a mole to not realize that Microsoft wouldn't have a clue of how to build this thing without copying the iPod. That's what Microsoft does - copy.

Another thing Microsoft does well is to market a product as a loss leader - for years if necessary. Remember how they started giving away their IE browser and just buried poor Netscape. Microsoft has money to burn.

Microsoft doesn't mind putting a piece of crap on the market. They know that the lemmings will buy anything with the MS logo on it. Then they will take years to iron out the bugs and end up with a fairly serviceable product. Not a great product, but one that works well enough for a world that follows the crowd.

And why is Microsoft supposedly launching their "iPod killer"? Because they just can't stand the thought of Apple dominating the market that Apple built. Ballmer says they are going after this market because it's there. He says they want 90% of the market or nothing.

    No.

Simply because htcSensation is 1.2GHz dual core

and... and... iphone5 will have lesser RAM than htcSensation.

Also, Apple is closed and Google is open.

    okthxbai

Oh I forgot...yes...the "Specs" argument. My bad. AND the Closed vs. Open debate. Yes...that too. It's so open that I can't upgrade to the latest Android version, because it's not available for carrier XYZ. But that's not Android's fault, or the Phone's fault. You can root it though. That's awesome...root it, then download the newest launcher, then reset it, and do this, and do that. Then when that's all done, it's no better than it was when I started. But hey, my icons are Green! Cool...

    Let's all spell it together.

    EXCLUSIVITY.

AT&T had it at one time. Hence, TMobile couldn't have the iPhone, or any other carrier in the United States.

    The more you know.....

It's absolutely ridiculous it has taken this long for tmobile to have the iphone in the usa.

No one asks what happens to Tmobile if the merger doesn't go through. Do they just continue along their merry way with the nice 3 million bonus from ATT? What will Deushe Telekom do with them if ATT merge doesn't go through? Go to the next bidder? Or just continue being the "4th" network provider?

This is great news! When the Zune is at its peak in three-five years, it can coincide with the first release of Vista in 2009-2012.

Do you seriously think VISTA (Viruses, Infections, Spyware, Trojans & Adware) is going to be released that early? lol.

I wonder what the point of this connection is...seriously. I don't connect 20 HDD's at a time in RAID 0. The only use I could see for Thunderbolt over USB3 is when I am trying to use the same connection for a few 30" displays in CONJUNCTION with SSD's in RAID 0....

I just can't see anything using this type of bandwidth...not at least until SSD's completely dominate the storage market.

I am mentally jumping for joy!

My newest computer is a 17" 2006 iMac. I play (some of) the latest PC games, I develop games and I edit trailers/other mid-high endery stuff. My iMac is a beast for getting through this far but it's starting to really show its age.

As soon as the new models are out you can consider a 27" bought. Words can't express how much I'm looking forward to this.

Looking forward to owning my first glossy display too. I imagine it's beautiful for photo editing+gaming.

Glad to see another PC Gamer + Mac User on the forums. One day my friend, we could perhaps game on our Macs...one day:( *soft weeping

One of my mates in Taiwan actually got a white conversion kit for his iPhone4. I took a look last week and was actually dissapointed. It looks kind of cheap & gimmicky. And I don't believe that's related to the quality of the conversion. This was performed using genuine apple components and in that respect the fit and finish was perfect.
