I have a 08 iMac and a new MBA. I use my MBA 95% of the time. Having a iPad and MBA seems more odd then a iPad and iMac. Since you are getting a free ipad I would consider pairing it with the iMac. My 2nd choice would be the Ipad+MBA+24" Dell display. Again this is just personal preference and it is really what you want :D
Thanks I think I'll stick with ur choice - ipad&imac

The newbies actually only have 1 or 2 posts, they only showed up on the list because they must have gotten interested in MR in the last month and posted something. The list does not include people who only have visited in the last month, active is considered posting in the forums.

That would be great indeed! There's a Safari extension that does that, but it's terrrrribly bad and it doesn't really work either. Safari extensions are all cr*p.
Many are crap. :)
But that's a great idea OP (even if it's not yours - I don't know). Apple should implement this in Safari and I think it will.

Three things to try
Right click and run as administrator.
Compatibility mode, try xp sp3
Cpu affinity to 0 - may not be necessary
Mine was locking up on the updating image step but one of the first two fixed it.

There were several stories on that a while back. (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=google+dns+slow+apple+downloads&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8)Don't recall the outcome.
FWIW, I'm on OpenDNS and I just installed Tiger from scratch on 2 machines and downloads were very fast.
I reverted back to my ISP's DNS servers and will report back when Apple releases another update - OpenDNS has domain hijacking issues/censorship, so I won't use it.

The Mac BU also will provide free, downloadable converters to allow users of current versions of Office for Mac to read the new Microsoft Office Open XML formats following the availability of Office for Windows
So to paraphrase, they're saying, "We can code for the Mac faster than we can for windows, and the XML extension for the Mac is ready...but you won't see it until the people who can't even write code for their own operating system are done."

Earlier this week, a report surfaced claiming that iOS 4.3.1 would be released with 1-2 weeks, and a follow-up report had that the release might address some battery life issues reported with iOS 4.3, although that has yet to be confirmed.
Apple indeed fixed the Battery performance issue from iOS 4.3, but just because, they added a new battery performance issue in iOS 4.3.1.

I honestly don't think we will see iOS 5 until the iPhone comes out. Which with the release of the white iPhone 4 probably won't happen until Q4 2011 or Q1 2012.
2 funny as if the jailbreak speculation timeframe wasn't enough now we need to add in speculation for iOS 5

apple.com.au still doesn't have iTunes 7 on their website:(
still can't buy tv shows:mad:
No mention of movie purchases in our store:confused:
Just another poor cousin release by the looks of it.
We're glad that you guys can have more fun than us.
You could use the cheering up what with george dubbya and all
Greetings from Australia
Thanks - it's too true. With our current W misery it's nice to have movies and TV to numb the pain.
I "authorized" my library to this machine and was reminded I have authorized "3 out of 5" - wasn't it previously 7 machines that could be "authorized"? maybe my imagination.
I really like iTunes7 - flipping through all my (new) CD art is a nice way to pick an album to listen to.

Mine is not like that at all and it is a 5K replacement. I would say yours isn't that bad. Trust me, you could get a lot worse in another replacement.
What do you mean by "5K"? I know I could get something worse but this bleed occurs on both sides. The pictures kind of dim it a little bit. My photography skills aren't too great haha. Do you think Apple will replace it for sure or is it kind of chancey? I don't want to drive 30 mins to and 30 mins back for nothing.

Zoogue case has
Cheaper price than book jacket. It has magnet to function wake/sleep function.
It uses better materials.

If Michael Moore is gonna insist wealth is pubic domain, I want a piece of his mansion. That guy is not as rich as Bill Gates but he's still friggin rich.
As far as taxation, you can't raise taxes on the poor because they don't have anything. You can only raise taxes on the rich. And you can't stimulate the economy during a slump without spending, which is why taxes are needed. It's a crappy dilemma, not everyone is gonna be happy. I'd settle for taxing the rich too if I was a politician.

Do you know what a tetherball is?
What's the difference between a tetherball and a ball? A cord\cable\string.
Tethered = when you reboot it has to be connected to your PC
Untethered = when you reboot it doesn't have to be.
You should google the question next time, don't be lazy.
Calm down.

Hi,
I've started using OSX again, as nothing in Linux compares to Aperture for photo management (still have an Ubuntu server, as for serving stuff, it's pretty great) and I'm going through putting my meaningful photos into Aperture, a day shoot at a time. I've only gotten part of the way through my library, only finishing May but I feel like this will be a worthwhile exercise for me and that if I continue with this, when importing from my camera, I will have a nicely indexed library with useful keywords.
I'm using a date based folder and project hierarchy, and importing each day with IPTC tags appended which include keywords and City, State/Province, Country.
This is a shot of the hierarchy I'm using:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5019/5509005948_a52765fb0c_b.jpg
And the metadata I'm using:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5213/5509006014_432a416198_b.jpg
Is there an automatic way to get the City, State/Province, Country information into 'Places'? Otherwise, I can at least just do a search for photos in a certain place and then manually give them their locations...
Thanks!

I played with this idea a year or two ago when an application came out that allowed you to add a peice of text as a contact. Plain text was easy just split it up and feed it in. But unfortunately in my original Ipod if you have any more than a page or two of text in a contact it scrolls really slowly... Slower than I can read. I then looked in to the documentation of formating text on a ipod with perhaps writing a converter from rtf as I had dozen or so ebooks in the format, Uggh!. In the end I decided haveing a ebook as 200 contacts and with a lot of work to get it formated on a tiny screen was way to hard and Took a laptop on holiday instead:)
Still have a couple of ebooks on my ipod and I still havent read 1 of them.

Yeah, bootcamp's designed to only boot in one or the other. That's why Bootcamp is better at gaming than virtualization software. Windows doesn't have to share resources with OSX.
That being said, you can run virtualization software to run both at the same time. If you're stuck on a budget, Virtualbox (http://www.virtualbox.org/) is a free, smallish download. I don't have a copy Windows to try it myself yet but I believe with some work, you can get VirtualBox working with a Bootcamp partition (http://phaq.phunsites.net/2011/03/05/sharing-windows-7-between-boot-camp-and-virtualbox/)so you can switch between the two methods, pendent on whether you need performance or multi-os functionality. Hope it helps.

So I decided to go with the Areca 1880ix-12 since word on the internet :) is it outperforms the latest offerings from ATTO. Does it come with an 8088 cable as well to connect external storage solution or just the 8087 internal?
Also with this MaxConnect HDD adapter solution for 3rd party RAID should I go with this one with no miniSAS cable:
I presume the Areca controller already comes with an 8087 miniSAS to 4xSATA header cable, do I still need the miniSAS cable that MaxConnect are including in that latter package ? In general do you I need any other accessories besides the ones that come with this MaxConnect pack to connect my 4x SATA HDD's to the controller ?
The card only comes with fan-out cables (SFF-8087 to 4i*SATA/SAS ends; 1x per SFF-8087 port, so in the case of the ARC-1880ix12, it will come with 3x of them).
In theory, you could order the version of the Maxupgrades kit without the MiniSAS cable, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to go ahead and get it (it may be shorter, as those that come with the Areca are 0.5 meters in length). Assuming the cable with the kit is shorter, it won't be as messy as a longer cable could be in terms of routing (those that have used that particular kit haven't mentioned it was a mess that I recall).
You won't need any other cabling to connect the card to the HDD bays (it all comes in the MaxUpgrades kit).
If you want to use an internal port with an external enclosure, there's a special cable you'd need to get for this. If you want to use the external port (keep in mind, this typically shares ports with an internal connector in past models, such as the 1680 series), you'd need to buy one. Either way, these do not come with the card, and you'd only need to get them if you're planning on running an external enclosure/s.
BTW, stick to 1.0 meters or less with SATA disks (1.0 m tends to be the shortest you can get off the shelf, but other lengths are possible via a custom order - I've done this before), and do not use the PCI bracket mount adapters to take internal to external cables (results in instability due to contact resistance - been through this battle before). These adapters are meant to be used with SAS, which runs at a much higher signal voltage (20V) than internal SATA (400mV).
As for flashing I'll take your advice and do it through firefox, the older version too and not the new 4 that just came out. So it's browser management\flashing utility is available irrespective of whether the card is flashed to EFI yet or not? Considering that it would by default be with BIOS I presume this to be the case?
You don't need to use the older version of Firefox. I was referring to Safari in terms of older versions that had been tried and didn't work (not tried Safari 5, but given past revisions, I'd skip even trying it when I know Firefox will work properly).
As per how to do it, a browser works in any OS supported by the card (browser connects via an IP address assigned to the RAID card). Now the firmware is actually in 4 parts (i.e. what you'd get in a firmware download off of Areca's support site). Assuming you don't need to upgrade anything else, you just use EFI to replace BOOT.bin, which is the BIOS version (leave the others alone).
There should be instructions in the manual that comes with the card fif you're a bit confused (it's in the others, so it should be there this go around as well). There's also confirmation check boxes to be marked before any flash is actually performed anyway (nice little safety feature), so you can look around without causing problems.

No... that was a lot of people getting confused. MS was giving away VirtualPC which is a Windows product. They never were giving away any Mac products, nor were they intending to as far as we know.
Yes, but we don't exactly know when that will come out. Look for it AFTER Vista (if that can happen) ;)
NO!
Universal Office will arrive in Approx. Late Sept-Nov.
